ISSUE

The customer from Chile sent a quotation for biaxial geogird system request to the BPM team. The customer described that the highway project required PP Geogrid products. The project location was at a high altitude and the temperature was relatively low. The magnitude of the frost heave and thaw subsidence could influence the soil structure, the stability and loading capacity of high way foundation in different places due to ever-frost. The difference was that when the difference was large to a certain extent, it would exceed the strength of the roadbed material, which would cause damage to the roadbed and road surface, form cracks or depressions, and affect driving safety.

SOLUTION

According to the customer’s engineering conditions and requirements, BPM team provided geogrid system for highway road enforcement engineering operation experience to the customer. The bottom of the soil embankment was filled with a certain thickness of stone, and the embankment with the soil layer was laid on it, then a layer of biaxial geogrid system was placed on it to reinforce the subgrade. This multi-voided “block-stone layer roadbed” can effectively protect frozen soil, and the pp biaxial geogrid could reinforce the foundation, increase the bearing capacity of the foundation, and limit the displacement of the soil, so the engineering requirements were perfectly solved.

BENIFITS

The confining effect of the plastic biaxial geogrid system on the road base can effectively distribute the load to a wider base, so the thickness of the base can be reduced by 50%, and the service life can be extended by 3 times. At the same time, the plastic biaxial geogrid can also increase the bearing capacity of the base. The ability to sustain complex loads reduces the pumping effect of reciprocating loads on the base and bottom layers. Tests have shown that the number of times that the geogrid-reinforced base can increase the reciprocating load capacity can be more than 3 times.
